Addressing Unconscious Bias
Additional Resources
Designed for staff and community members who support refugees and other ORR-eligible populations, this micro-lesson introduces unconscious bias as a normal part of how the human brain works. Viewers will learn how automatic assumptions and pattern-recognition shortcuts can influence communication, interpretation, and decision-making, often without us realizing it. Through simple, practical strategies like pausing, perspective-taking, and shifting from judgment to curiosity, this lesson offers tools to strengthen fairness, clarity, and respect in everyday interactions with clients, coworkers, and community partners. Grounded in the idea that unconscious bias is a human condition, this micro-lesson encourages awareness, reflection, and small mindset shifts that create more welcoming and equitable service environments.
