Agency Overview
California Rural Legal Assistance Foundation (CRLAF)'s mission is to achieve social justice and equity in partnership with farmworkers, low-wage workers, and mixed-status families in rural communities through community, legislative and legal advocacy; community capacity building, and leadership development.
CRLAF provides high-quality legal services, leads community organizing, and engages in successful administrative and legislative advocacy to help residents improve their individual and collective economic, political, and social conditions.
CRLAF's regular presence in the Central Valley's most remote and isolated regions allows outreach workers to identify trends and bring larger ongoing issues and specific civil rights violations to stakeholder and other decision maker's attention to influence larger systemic chanfe. Specific issues are referred to our attorneys and partners for further legal assistance and supportive services.
Eligibility & Referral
CRLAF was established in 1981 in response to Legal Service Corporation (LSC)’s restrictions limiting LSC-funded organizations from serving undocumented populations and engaging in class-action litigation and lobbying, two of the most effective ways to bring about sustainable and systemic change.
